Description

The Senckenberg Society for Nature Research intends to remodel the listed main building of the Senckenberg Research Institute and Natural History Museum Frankfurt. In addition to the monument-preserving general renovation of the existing building, it is planned to accommodate an extension on the site. The Senckenberg Society for Nature Research is a research institution of the Leibniz Association. Today, around 900 employees work at Senckenberg in eight institutes in Germany. At the Senckenberg Research Institute and Natural History Museum Frankfurt, the research departments have always been closely interlinked with the museum sections. This connection is to be further strengthened with the future expansion. The main building of the Senckenberg Research Institute and Natural History Museum Frankfurt is a very high-quality and magnificent historicist building, a landmark and one of the most important cultural monuments of the city of Frankfurt am Main. However, the building has become outdated in functional terms and no longer represents Senckenberg in the manner befitting an institution of this rank and name. The existing structure has considerable structural and structural deficiencies. Senckenberg's needs for new research, exhibition and collection areas can only be met with a redevelopment of the existing structure. Modern spaces for research and education are to be added. A two-phase implementation competition is to be carried out for this purpose. The New Senckenberg Natural History Museum Frankfurt has a total floor area of approximately 34,480 m² GFA, divided into the existing main building with a determined GFA of approximately 20,267 m² and the new building with a GFA of approximately 14,213 m². The competition will be announced as an interdisciplinary, two-phase, non-open implementation competition according to RPW 2013 – "Guidelines for Planning Competitions" – with a preceding selection procedure, with 30 participants in the 1st phase and at least 15 participants in the 2nd phase. The client selects 8 participants in advance. The procedure is anonymous (Section 1 Paragraph 4 RPW 2013) and will be conducted in German (Section 5 Paragraph Annex I No. 20 RPW 2013). The subject of the competition are services according to HOAI of a monument-preserving general renovation and extension concept with processing of the building planning for the Senckenberg Society for Nature Research. Eligible to participate are architects in applicant teams with landscape architects as well as engineers in the field of structural design. It is desired that the architect is the lead in the procedure. For further information, please refer to 5.1. the notice and the attached short information.
