Germany – Research and development services and related consultancy services – Ganzgenomsequenzierung NAKO PAIS

Helmholtz Zentrum München Deutsches Forschungszentrum für Gesundheit und Umwelt (GmbH)GermanyPublished on Sep 06, 2026
Deadline passed

Description

The subject of the contract is the whole-genome sequencing of highly standardised, human DNA samples from the NAKO health study as part of the "NAKO-PAIS" project, which is funded by the BMFTR. The samples to be sequenced are DNA samples isolated from buffy coats. The contract includes acceptance and incoming inspection of the provided DNA samples, PCR-free library preparation, whole-genome sequencing, internal quality control of the sequencing performance, delivery of the sequencing raw data in Illumina ICA-Base, delivery of defined technical metadata in Illumina ICA-Base, and documentation of the sample, library, run and data delivery processes. Furthermore, repetition or re-sequencing in case of non-achievement of defined quality parameters, as far as the cause is within the responsibility of the contractor. This means in all cases in which the samples meet the agreed incoming quality criteria. Not subject to the contract are alignment, variant calling, joint genotyping, creation of final analysis products such as CRAM, gVCF, VCF or msVCF, data management in Illumina ICA-BASE, scientific evaluation of the sequence data, and the bioinformatics data processing in Illumina ICA with DRAGEN. Quality feedback, in particular on the average coverage achieved per sample, will be provided to the contractor from this data processing and is relevant for acceptance, repetition or re-sequencing. Project objective: Since 2014, the NAKO health study has been investigating 205,000 people aged 20 to 69 nationwide at 18 study centres. The participants are regularly invited for follow-up examinations to generate long-term health data. A central objective is to research molecular causes of disease onset and progression and to identify biomarkers for the early detection of common diseases and personalised prevention. The storage of human bioprobes is centrally located at Helmholtz Munich and represents a valuable resource for science. The BMFTR-funded whole-genome sequencing of NAKO participants enables an in-depth characterisation of the genetic architecture of the German population with a particular focus on post-infectious diseases. Funding reservation: The award of the contract in this tendering procedure is subject to the final approval of the third-party funds provided for the procurement and the corresponding allocation of funds by the grantor. At the time of initiation of the tendering procedure, the final grant notification is not yet available. However, based on the current status of the funding procedure, there is a justified expectation that the requested funding will be approved. The contracting entity will fully conduct the tendering procedure independently of this. However, the contract will only be awarded if the financing by the grantor has been finally approved and the necessary funds have been provided. If the requested funding is not approved as expected or is not approved to an extent sufficient for the performance of the contract, or if financing is not available for other reasons, the contracting entity reserves the right to terminate the tendering procedure in accordance with the procurement law provisions. There is no entitlement to the award until its grant.
