The Federal Office of Energy (BFE) annually surveys energy consumption in the industrial and services sectors. The statistics have been published annually since 1999. To date, the survey has included a sample of approximately 14,000 workplaces per year, which were surveyed directly, and around 5,000 workplaces whose data were supplied by central bodies (so-called “special cases”: enterprises with a list of workplaces, federal enterprises, large federal consumers). Since 2002, the Federal Statistical Office (BFS) has been responsible for selecting workplaces from the Swiss Business and Enterprise Register (BUR) and for the extrapolation process. The mandate for this survey was last tendered in December 2015 and is now being tendered again upon expiry of the contract period. From the reference year (RY) 2027 onwards, energy consumption is to continue to be surveyed directly at around 14,000 workplaces annually. The contract period for the mandate being tendered here is five years with an option for annual extension for a maximum of a further five years. Preparations usually begin in August of the reference year. An increased effort must be expected for the first survey round.
