Description

The contract concerns the implementation of Phase II of the soil remediation at Blekerijweg in IJsselmuiden and focuses on the remediation of contamination in the seepage zone in the Koekoekspolder. In this area, contaminated groundwater (mainly cis-1,2-dichloroethene and vinyl chloride) is seeping into the shallow groundwater and surface water, leading to use restrictions and exceedance of environmental quality standards. The objective of the contract is to reduce the concentrations of these contaminants to the remediation targets as set out in the approved remediation plan, by implementing and maintaining a remediation system based on in-situ soil remediation. The contract includes the design, implementation, management, operation and maintenance of an in-situ remediation system, whereby through stimulated biological degradation (including by dosing a carbon source and bacteria) the contaminant concentrations in the groundwater in the seepage zone and the outflow to the surface water are reduced. The works mainly consist of: • the design and optimisation of the remediation system; • the installation and commissioning of the remediation system; • the management and operation of the remediation system throughout the project duration; • the performance of monitoring and process control; • the maintenance of the system and reporting on the progress and results of the remediation.
