Reason and Objective

Located in the south of Fürstenfeldbruck's city centre is the approximately 7,300 m² site with the distinctive and largely preserved building stock of the former slaughterhouse, which was erected in 1911 based on the plans of Adolf Voll. The long-desired relocation of the municipal building yard opens up the possibility of a new urban planning order in the area of the landing stage. To this end, in 2020, as part of an urban planning ideas and implementation competition, an innovative design was sought for a lively, heterogeneous area that combines central residential living, cultural and creative industries, gastronomy, youth culture, and recreation with the demanding inventory of water landscape and historical buildings. Additionally, a feasibility study was conducted on the reuse and renovation of the former slaughterhouse. Based on this, the competition conducted in 2026 resulted in a design for the building ensemble of the former slaughterhouse that seizes the unique opportunity to implement the usage concept, taking into account the individual monument of national significance, in a creative and innovative way and to create a place of culture, creativity, and innovation. After two years of planning and two years of construction, the project is scheduled for completion. To implement the construction project, among other things, funding will be applied for at the State Office for the Preservation of Monuments and the Government of Upper Bavaria (Urban Development Funding). The renovation of the former slaughterhouse and its open spaces is part of the master plan for the new Kreativquartier Fürstenfeldbruck and will be one of the first construction measures. The historical building ensemble will be supplemented by the new construction of an atelier/workshop building and a mobility hub (both not part of the current planning task) and developed into a cultural and creative hub with spaces for creative working methods and events.
