Germany – Economic research services – Potenziale und Ansatzpunkte für den Ausbau einer leistungsfähigen Sicherheits- und Verteidigungsindustrie – Machbarkeitsstudie mit besonderem Fokus auf strukturschwache Regionen in Deutschland

The German security and defence industry (SVI) is gaining in importance in light of the changed security policy situation and increasing defence expenditure and is expected to grow significantly in the coming years. The SVI includes companies that provide goods, technologies, software or services for civil security and military national and alliance defence or are part of the corresponding value chain. Economically weak regions, particularly in eastern Germany, have considerable potential for the expansion of the security and defence industry due to their geographical location and available industrial sites, but are currently much less developed than established locations. Initial settlements and investments by defence companies underscore the growing importance of these regions as potential production and innovation sites. The aim of the project is to systematically analyse the economic, infrastructural and innovation-related location factors and development potentials in order to support the sustainable establishment and strengthening of the security and defence industry in economically weak regions of Germany.
