The construction measure Ortskern Volksdorf involves the redesign of the street section into a traffic-calmed commercial area. This means continuing the existing one-way street regulation, establishing a 20 km/h zone (VZ 274.1), and designating it as a restricted no-stopping zone (VZ 290.1) in conjunction with the permission to park for up to two hours in designated areas (VZ 1040-33). The establishment of a traffic-calmed commercial area, particularly in the secondary areas, provides space for diverse uses. Drawing on the experiences from the Flaniermeile Volksdorf, reducing parking search traffic would lead to traffic calming and thus to an improved quality of stay in the project area. For example, elements such as more benches, planting beds, small play areas for children, or use possibilities through outdoor gastronomy can be installed, which will liven up the street section and significantly improve the quality of stay and the length of stay on site. The aim is to implement the planning for a traffic-calmed commercial area, possibly with the development of various conceivable sub-variants. As part of the planning process, public participation is envisaged. The format and the respective scope of the participation still need to be coordinated. However, the public should have the opportunity to actively participate in the design process on site, so that citizens can, for example, actively participate in the positioning of benches or green islands in the street section.
