Create a systematic basis for evaluating climate-related damage: the development of damage indicators and damage functions for rail and road, as well as their application in case studies, enables a well-founded analysis of damage potential. The aim of the project is to create a clear and practical basis for recording and evaluating climate-related damage potential in rail and road transport. To this end, suitable indicators and damage functions will be identified, further developed and applied exemplarily to make climate-related damage to transport infrastructure and operational impacts systematically measurable. Description Extreme weather events such as heavy rainfall, flooding or heat, which are becoming increasingly intense due to climate change, pose a growing threat to rail and road infrastructure and significantly impair transport operations. These changes require a systematic recording and evaluation of climate-related damage in order to increase the resilience of transport infrastructure. As part of this project, suitable indicators and damage functions will be developed that map both physical damage to infrastructure elements and the operational impacts of climate-related events. These indicators and damage functions will be applied in selected case studies for the transport modes of rail and road and evaluated in a practical manner. The methodology will be described in a user manual to make climate impact-related damage potential traceable and quantitatively measurable in practice.
