Air pollution is monitored in Switzerland through various cantonal, municipal, and national measurement networks. In doing so, cantons have partially joined forces to form measurement associations (e.g. OSTLUFT, in-luft, Nordwestschweiz). The requirements for data access and data exchange have changed. As a result, a nationwide database (AIRDB) for the central management of air pollution measurement data has been developed in recent years under the leadership of the BAFU. This database includes the data from the national measurement network (NABEL) as well as the data from the cantonal and municipal measurement networks. The AIRDB creates the technical prerequisites for a common data platform. The AIRDB is scheduled to go live in mid-2026. The data available on or released by the AIRDB is to be made accessible to the public via a common data platform for air hygiene of the cantons. The existing data platforms for air hygiene data are also very heterogeneous in structure (scope of data, functions, type of provision, data format). The Conference of Environmental Protection Agencies aims to procure a central joint data platform for air hygiene through the present invitation to tender, with the goal of facilitating the exchange of data and thereby improving information for the population and the public in the field of air hygiene.
